Ingredients

  • 1 cup lean ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked lasagna pasta sheets
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely diced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F and lightly oil a small baking dish.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and saute onion and garlic 3 minutes.
  3. Add ground beef and cook 5-7 minutes, breaking it up, until browned; drain fat.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce and Italian seasoning; simmer 5 minutes, then season with salt and pepper.
  5. Mix ricotta, egg, basil, and a pinch of salt in a bowl until smooth.
  6. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the dish, then layer pasta, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella; repeat, finishing with mozzarella and Parmesan.
  7. Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake 10 minutes more until golden and bubbly.
  8. Rest 10 minutes before slicing so the layers set.
