Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 25, 2026

Overview

LowCalFoodie ("we", "us", or "our") is a free website that provides recipes, meal planning tools, pantry tracking, and nutrition information. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.

Information We Don't Collect

LowCalFoodie does not require account registration. We do not collect:

  • Your name, email, or contact information (unless you contact us directly)
  • Your precise location or IP address (beyond what analytics tools aggregate)
  • Your health data or nutrition calculations (all calculations happen in your browser)
  • Payment information (our site is entirely free)

Information We Collect Automatically

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how visitors use our site. This tool collects:

  • Aggregate page view counts (anonymous)
  • Country-level location data (not precise)
  • Referrer information (which website linked to us)
  • Device type (mobile, desktop, tablet)

This data is anonymized and aggregated. We cannot identify individual users from this data.

Cookies

We use minimal cookies:

  • Analytics cookies — Set by Cloudflare Web Analytics to distinguish unique visitors. These do not contain personal information.
  • Essential cookies — Any cookies necessary for the website to function properly.

We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting cookies, or third-party tracking cookies.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Cloudflare — Website hosting, security, and analytics
  • Google Fonts — Font delivery (fonts are loaded from Google's CDN)

Your Data in Our Tools

All interactive tools on LowCalFoodie — including the Meal Plan Generator, Meal Prep Planner, and Pantry tracker — process data entirely in your browser. The information you enter (ingredients, recipe selections, pantry items, etc.) is never sent to our servers.

Browser storage

Some tools save data in your browser so you can return to your work later:

  • Meal plans and shopping lists — saved in your browser's local storage and persist across sessions unless you clear them.
  • Pantry inventory — saved in local storage and shared across browser tabs on the same device.
  • Private reference — if you choose to add a care-team reference in the Meal Prep Planner, you can choose between Save on this device (local storage, persists until you remove it) or This session only (session storage, cleared when you close the browser). You can delete the reference at any time using the Remove from this device button. The reference text is never uploaded, analyzed, or interpreted by LowCalFoodie.
  • Meal check-ins — when you share how a planned meal worked for you (Made it, Saved for later, or Not a fit today), the recipe slug and title, day, meal slot, action, optional Would make again flag, and timestamp are saved in your browser's local storage under the key lowcalfoodie:checkins:v1. This data stays on your device and is never uploaded, analyzed, or interpreted by LowCalFoodie. You can clear all check-ins at any time using the Clear check-ins button in the Meal Prep Planner, or by using your browser's Clear browsing data function. No health data, symptoms, intake amounts, body measurements, medication information, or free-text notes are collected.

To remove all saved data, use your browser's Clear browsing data function, or use the in-tool delete buttons (such as Clear All in the Meal Prep Planner, Clear check-ins for meal feedback, or Remove from this device for the private reference).

Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Your Rights

Under GDPR (EU) and CCPA (California), you have the right to:

  • Know what personal data is being collected
  • Request deletion of your personal data
  • Opt out of data collection
  • Access a copy of your personal data

Since we don't collect personal data, most of these rights are automatically satisfied. To opt out of analytics, you can use a browser extension like uBlock Origin or enable "Do Not Track" in your browser. To delete data stored in your browser by our tools, use the in-tool delete buttons or your browser's Clear browsing data function.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
